ISF filing stands for Importer Security Filing and it applies only to ocean import shipments into the US, air shipments do not require an ISF.
The ISF must be filed at least 24 hours before the cargo is loaded on a vessel destined to the US. The ISF filing requirement applies to cargo intended to enter the US commerce and also to in-bond cargo for immediate transportation, transportation & export, or entered into a bonded warehouse. Doral Customs Brokers electronically submits ISF cargo information to US customs.
In order to file an ISF some or all of the following information is needed from the importer:
- Seller name and address
- Importer name and address
- Importer of record ss# or EIN number
- Consignee name and address
- Manufacturer or supplier name and address
- Country of origin
- Commodity Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) code or detailed description
- Container stuffing station name and address
- Consolidator name and address
- Ship date
- AMS BL number
Doral Customs Brokers processes the information received from the importer and the shipper and prepares the necessary documentation to submit the ISF to US customs.
CBP (Customs Border and Protection) enforces the timely filing of the required ISF documentation at least 24 hours before loading to a vessel. Fines applicable for not filing, late, or inaccurate filing can be up to $5,000 per violation.
We must have the information required for the proper filing of the ISF at least 3 days before the import shipment is scheduled to be loaded on a vessel destined for the US.
