First time importers
At Doral Customs Brokers we frequently work with first time importers as they expand their reach and open new markets in the US.
For first time importers, it is important to be well informed of the import requirements not only for US customs, but also for other US government agencies such as FDA, USDA, FSIS, FCC, EPA and many others. Most of these requirements will need to be met before the shipment leaves it’s country of origin, otherwise the shipment runs a risk of being delayed, fined or confiscated at US customs.
We enjoy working with new import projects and we are here to assist you with initial import requirements and registrations. We have special project management guidelines for new importers through our consulting services.
We frequently work with clients on import projects months before the import is due to arrive at a US port. For first time importers this is a great advantage since we review labeling requirements for new products, import configurations for product requirements, and other pre-shipment guidelines to ensure that the import process once it arrives at a US customs port is as fast and efficient as possible.
After selecting your shipment method to the US, whether it will be ground, air or ocean, it is necessary to be informed of the different US customs requirements as they apply to the transportation method.
One of the most important guidelines to be aware of is the requirement for an Importer Security Filing also known as ISF or 10+2 which must be filed and approved by customs at least 24 hours before the cargo is loaded on a vessel destined for the US, this requirement only applies to ocean shipments. Under the forms sections of this website you can find the ISF worksheet that we would need you to fill out in order for us to process the ISF. We must have the completed ISF worksheet and the other documentation required for the ISF at least 3 days before your loading date.
We work with small imports and large multinational shipments alike. Our customers are our top priority and we are here to take you through your import process quickly and efficiently. We keep the importer and all parties involved in the shipment informed every step of the way.
